Men's soccer drops 1-0 decision to Gallaudet

READING, PA (October 20, 2012) - The Penn State Berks men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback to Gallaudet University in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions wore pink jerseys as they hosted their first ever Pink Games fundraiser in support of breast cancer awareness. The men's and women's teams combined to raise $233.60, which will go to the Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

Prior the contest, the men's program honored senior defensemen Andrew Fair, Erik Mertz, and Larnelle Larose.

Karlis Intsons scored a breakaway goal in the fourth minute and the Bison were able to hang on the rest of the way. The Nittany Lions found more scoring opportunities, but could not find the back of the net. Berks outshot the Bison by a 21-7 margin and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Mertz, who finished with four shots on goal, looked to have the contest tied, but Eric Setzer made a diving save to maintain the shutout. He finished the contest with 14 saves, while freshman Trey Madara recorded four for the Nittany Lions.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Rosemont College for a non-conference contest on Monday, October 22 at 3:30 p.m.
