Lions sweep Albright in dramatic fashion

READING, PA (September 6, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team continued its dominant start to the season with a 3-0 win over Albright College on Tuesday evening at Beaver Community Center. In both matches this season, the Nittany Lions have found different way to put away their opposition.

The Nittany Lions (2-0) cruised to 25-17 wins in each of the first two games. Berks trailed throughout the majority of the third set, but they never gave up.

An ace by freshman KAITLYN SCHMECK evened the match at 24-all. AMY SHELTON then smashed the ball past a slew of Albright blockers to give Berks its first lead of the set at 25-24. Shelton came right back with another kill to clinch the win and finish off the comeback.

Shelton finished with 12 kills, with only one errror committed on 17 attempts. She also was a force at the net with three solo blocks and assisting on another.

Libero VICTORIA YOUNG recorded a game-high 16 digs. The freshman ran around jumping and diving all over the court to keep rallies alive for the Nittany Lions. Young also tallied two aces.

KAYLA MOSSER chipped in six kills, while RACHEL SWEENEY added five. Schmeck dished out 25 assists to go along with her four kills and two aces. MARIA PAVONE also registered four kills.

The Nittany Lions will return to action on Monday, September 12 in a non-conference tilt Marywood. The contest will begin at 7 p.m.
