Women's volleyball fall 3-1 to Moravian

BETHLEHEM, PA (September 29, 2011) – The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team had its eight-match win streak come to an end in a 3-1 loss to Moravian College on Thursday evening at Johnston Hall.

The Nittany Lions (10-2) dropped the first game 25-11, but evened up the match with a 25-21 win in the second. The Greyhounds (12-7) then grabbed the lead with a 25-17 victory and closed out the match with a 25-23 thriller in the game four clincher.

The Berks defense collected 77 digs, with libero Victoria Young notching a season-high 29. Courtney Lucarelli followed with 11 digs.

Amy Shelton led the Nittany Lions with 14 kills. She also added one block solo and assisted on two. Rachel Sweeney and Kayla Mosser each had seven kills. Kaitlyn Schmeck had 30 assists and eight digs.

Samantha Savite led Moravian with 17 kills, followed by Katie Moquete with 11. Jesse Krasley had four aces and Kelly Brown recored 43 assists.

The Nittany Lions will host the NEAC South Division play on October 1 and October 2. Berks will open up the weekend against Penn State Harrisburg at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
