PHOENXVILLE, PA (September 27, 2011) – The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team downed Valley Forge Christian College 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon to earn its 10th win of the season. The Nittany Lions won by set scores of 25-8, 25-11 and 25-7.
It took the Nittany Lions (10-1) only 11 matches to reach the double-digit plateau, which is the fastest in program history. Last year's squad, who won a school-record 25 matches, reached 10 in their 13th contest.
Berks racked up 20 kills and committed only seven errors on 51 attempts. VICTORIA YOUNG, who was recently named NEAC Defensive Player of the Week, recorded six of the season-high 20 aces. KATE SHIMANDLE, KAYLIE VRABEL and COURTNEY LUCARELLI each had three aces and ROBYN FIORE added one.
Jennifer Nawa, Shimandle and Young tied for the team lead with three digs a piece. KAITLYN SCHMECK handed out eight assists and Vrabel added five.
The Nittany Lions will travel to Moravian on Thursday, September 29 for a final tune-up before hosting the NEAC Southern Division play on October 1 and 2.
