The Nittany Lions (7-1, 4-0 NEAC) scored early and often to win game one by a score of 25-12. After trailing throughout the second game, the Nittany Lions battled back from a late three-point deficit to win 26-24. The Chargers (8-3, 3-1 NEAC) recorded five straight points late in the clincher before falling 25-20.

Berks grabbed a commanding 12-0 lead in the first game behind the vicious jump serve of Victoria Young. The freshman libero finished with three of the Nittany Lions 10 service aces.

With the Chargers leading 23-20 in the second game, the Nittany Lions upped their play coming out of a timeout by head coach Jessie Franko. Kayla Mosser drilled a line drive past the Charger defense to cut it to 24-23 and a Lancaster Bible error evened the contest. Amy Shelton kept the momentum going in Berks' favor with a kill, to grab the first lead since 16-15. Shelton then put the game away with perfectly placed tap over a pair of blockers.

“I'm really proud of the girls on the win tonight,” said Franko. “That comeback in game two was very impressive. It is good to know that we are capable of coming back from those kind of deficits.”

Shelton continued her dominance with a match-high 13 kills, to run her season total up to 111. The sophomore middle hitter also notched two service aces and four total blocks.

Rachel Sweeney and Mosser each chipped in six kills. Berks compiled 34 kills and 17 errors, while the Chargers had 29 kills and committed 25 errors.

In addition to the three aces by Young, Kaitlyn Schmeck and Courtney Lucarelli each recoded two. Schmeck handed out 30 assists and had a team-best 11 digs.

Lauren Heliger led the Chargers with 12 kills, followed by Lauren Donato with seven. The pair each recorded 11 digs, while Donato added three solo blocks.

The Nittany Lions will host a home tri-match with Wilkes University and Montclair State University on Saturday morning. Berks and Wilkes will kick the day off with a 10 a.m. match at Beaver Community Center.
