SCRANTON, PA (September 20, 2011) – Amy Shelton continued her early dominating play to lead the Penn State Berks women's volleyball team to a convincing 3-1 win over the University of Scranton on Tuesday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions (6-1 overall) took the first game by a 25-22 score before falling 26-24. Berks then regained control with a 25-16 win in third and clinched the match with a 25-19 game four victory.
Shelton smacked a school-record 26 kills, breaking her own record of 21 set against Marywood on October 17, 2010. In 44 total attacks, Shelton only had four miscues to give her a .500 hitting percentage. Only seven matches into the season, Shelton has already racked up 98 kills.
When Shelton wasn't in attack mode, she was denying the Scranton offense at the net with three solo blocks and one block assist. Courtney Lucarelli had a one solo and one assisted block. She also chipped in nine digs.
Victoria Young led the Nittany Lions with 17 digs and five aces. Kaitlyn Schmeck dished out 37 assists and had 10 digs. Steph Semple matched a career-high with three aces.
The Nittany Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible for a North Eastern Athletic Conference contest on Thursday, September 22 at 7:30 p.m.
