Volleyball sweeps on first day of NEAC play

CAZENOVIA, NY (September 17, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team swept its two North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) matches on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions defeated Keuka College 3-1 (25-18, 25-27, 25-23, 25-21) in the opener and then downed host Cazenovia College 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-17) in the nightcap.

KAYLA MOSSER and AMY SHELTON each pounded out 14 kills and added one solo block against Keuka. Mosser also assisted on two blocks. COURTNEY LUCARELLI had a season-best nine kills, followed by RACHEL SWEENEY with eight. KAITLYN SCHMECK registered 43 assists.

The Nittany Lion defense recorded 81 digs, VICTORIA YOUNG had a team-high 17. KATIE SOSTAK and Lucarelli each recorded 15 digs.

In the win over Cazenovia, Shelton led the team with a .467 hitting percentage. She had nine kills and just two errors on 15 attempts. Mosser added seven kills and MARIA PAVONE had six.

The Nittany Lions will finish off the first conference weekend on Sunday at 10 a.m. against SUNY Cobleskill
