Volleyball suffers first setback of the season

SCRANTON, PA (September 12, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team fell 3-0 to Marywood University in a non-conference battle Monday evening at Insalaco Arena.

The Nittany Lions (2-1) hadn't lost a single game entering tonight's match. Berks battled to the end in all three of the games, as the Pacers (4-2) won by scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-23.

AMY SHELTON, who was named the NEAC Offensive Volleyball Player of the Week earlier in the day, gave another superb effort for the Lions. For the second straight match, Shelton recorded 12 kills, three solo blocks and assisted on another block. In the three matches this season, she has 38 kills, seven solo blocks and five block assists.

KAYLA MOSSER followed Shelton with eight kills. KAITLYN SCHMECK handed out 25 assists, while COURTNEY LUCARELLI had a team-leading nine digs. VICTORIA YOUNG registered eight digs.

Ashley Cavellier and Emily Fillman led the Pacers with 10 kills. Alyssa Hartranft recorded 33 assists.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Cazenovia College this weekend for the start of conference play. Berks will play Keuka College on Saturday, September 17 at 2 p.m., followed by host Cazenovia at 4 p.m. They finish the pool play with SUNY Cobleskill on Sunday at 10 a.m.
