Men's soccer come up short in NEAC opener

BERNVILLE, PA (September 10, 2011) - Sekou Konneh scored a late second half goal, but the Penn State Berks men's soccer team could not overcome an early deficit in a 2-1 loss to Keuka College on Saturday afternoon.

Due to poor field conditions, the North Eastern Athletic Conference opener was played at nearby Tulpehocken High School.

Konneh grabbed a loose ball, spun around and fired a line drive past the keeper into the left corner of the net in the 77 minute. It was the freshman midfielder's first goal of his collegiate career.

The Nittany Lions (0-4, 0-1 NEAC) applied pressure in the final 13 minutes, but could not find the equalizer. In the waning seconds of the contest,
LOGAN LANGSETH raced down the left side of the field but the Keuka defender made a potential game saving sliding tackle to thwart the attack.

The Storm (3-0, 1-0 NEAC) got on the board at the 24:53 mark on a breakaway goal by John Mastrella. David Caramella scored what proved to be the game winning after putting a rebound into the left corner of the net.

Sophomore
JONATHAN JABLONKA, who had amazing diving saves in each half, finished the contest with five stops. Keuka's Derek Condon recorded 10 saves on the day.

The teams played a very even contest, with Keuka leading in shots (17-14) and Berks holding the advantage in corner (4-2).

The Nittany Lions will return to conference action tomorrow afternoon against Wells College. The match begins at 1 p.m. and will be played at Hamburg High School.
