Lions cruise to fifth straight win

READING, PA (April 7, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team shutout Trinity (D.C.) 9-0 to earn its fifth straight win on Thursday afternoon at Hillcrest Racquet Club.

The Nittany Lions (6-4) No. 1 doubles pair of Crystal Hitz and Amanda Fuller earned an 8-4 win over Lakia Merriweather and Sheila Jean-Baptiste. Hitz also won in the first singles flight by a score of 6-1, 6-1.

Aimee Hoffman and Samantha Warga (No. 2) teamed up for an 8-2 win, while Liz Martinez and Rebecca Loewenstein-Harting won 8-0 at third doubles.

Kaitlin Meck, playing in her first match of the season, emerged the winner in the tightest match of the day. Trailing 5-4 in the opening set, the freshman rattled off three straight games to take grab the first set. Meck then cruised to a 6-1 win in the clincher.

Arion Harris (No. 2) breezed through her match by a score of 6-0, 6-0 and Loewenstein-Harting had a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at the third spot. Melissa Boyer won 6-2, 6-3, while Meghan Hartley downed Grace Petit 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles slot.

The Nittany Lions will host Wilson on Sunday, April 10 at 1 p.m. in a North Eastern Athletic Conference match.
