Women's tennis downs Wilson in conference battle

READING, PA (April 10, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team picked up its sixth consecutive victory after defeating Wilson College 6-3 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match on Sunday afternoon at Gring's Mill.

The Nittany Lions (7-4, 3-0 NEAC) took a 2-1 lead in the doubles matches. Aimee Hoffman and Samantha Warga downed Sarah Loucks and Chris Shick 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles spot. The duo of Liz Martinez and Rebecca Loewenstein-Harting picked up an 8-0 shutout in the third doubles flight.

In the singles play, the Lions picked up wins from the three through six spots of the lineup. Martinez and Warga each finished the day with 2-0 records after grabbing wins at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively. Martinez won 6-1, 6-1 over Iris McLane, while Warga prevailed 6-2, 6-2 against Shick.

Amanda Fuller (No. 3) had the tightest match, winning by scores of 6-3 and 6-4. Arion Harris rounded out the Berks winners with a 6-0,6-0 shutout in the No. 6 singles flight.

The Nittany Lions host a NEAC match with Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday, April 12 at 4 p.m.
