ABINGTON, PA (April 5, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team won 6-3 on the road against Penn State Abington in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match on Tuesday afternoon. The match was delayed due to court conditions from the rain, causing the teams to play eight game pro-sets.
The Nittany Lions picked up their fourth straight victory to move to 5-4 on the year and 2-0 in the NEAC. It is the first time this season that the Nittany Lions overall record has been above .500.
Freshman Crystal Hitz finished 2-0 playing out of the No. 1 singles and doubles spots for Berks. She won 8-2 in singles and teamed up with Amanda Fuller for an 8-3 doubles victory.
Liz Martinez also picked up two wins for the Nittany Lions. She paired up with Rebecca Loewenstein-Harting for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. In singles play, Martinez was an 8-4 winner in the fourth spot.
Aimee Hoffman pulled out a 9-7 triumph at No. 2 singles. Hoffman and Samantha Warga gave a strong effort at the No. 2 doubles spot, but suffered an 8-6 setback.
Arion Harris won 8-2 in the sixth singles spot to round out the Berks winners.
The Nittany Lions will host Trinity (D.C.) on Thursday at 4 p.m. The match will be played indoors at Hillcrest Racquet Club.
