KEUKA PARK, N.Y. (April 17, 2011) – The Penn State Berks women's tennis team dropped its match on the road with Keuka College, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon in a rainy, windy, hail filled North Eastern Athletic (NEAC) contest.
The Nittany Lions (8-5) seven match win streak came to a halt and their perfect NEAC record fell to 4-1. The Storm improved their overall record to 5-4 and took sole possession of first place at 5-0.
The teams battled tightly in the doubles portion of the match, with Keuka pulling out a 2-1 advantage. The No. 3 team of Liz Martinez and Arion Harris earned an 8-5 win to avoid a doubles sweep.
Aimee Hoffman and Samantha Warga dropped a 9-8 heartbreaker at second doubles. They were edged out 10-7 in the tiebreaker. The first doubles team of Crystal Hitz and Amanda Fuller also put up a strong effort but were edged out 9-7.
In the singles play, Hoffman (No. 2) won by set scores of 6-2, 6-2. Harris, playing in the fifth spot, won by a score of 6-2, 6-1 to round out the Berks winners.
The Nittany Lions will return to action on Monday, April 18 with a NEAC match against Penn State Harrisburg starting at 3 p.m.
