READING, PA (April 18, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team downed Penn State Harrisburg, 7-2, in its regular season finale on Monday afternoon at Gring's Mill.
The Nittany Lions, who had a seven match win streak snapped yesterday, improved to 9-5 overall and 5-1 in the NEAC.
All three doubles teams won their matches, with the No. 3 duo of Liz Martinez and Rebecca Loewenstein-Harting cruising to an 8-0 victory. Crystal Hitz and Amanda Fuller (No. 1) outlasted Kelly Jackson and Maddie Kuzo for a 9-7 win, while Aimee Hoffman and Samantha Warga were 8-5 winners in the second flight.
In singles, Arion Harris made quick work of the No. 5 contest with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Hitz grabbed a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No.1 spot and Hoffman (No. 2) won by scores of 6-4, 6-3. Liz Martinez, playing fourth singles, rounded out the winners with a score of 6-2, 6-2.
The Nittany Lions have plenty of time to rest up for the NEAC Championship being played at Clarks Summit. The team tournament will start on Saturday, April 30 and individual play will be on Sunday, May 1.
