AURORA, N.Y. (April 16, 2011) - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team squeezed out a 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon at Wells College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) match.
The Nittany Lions won their seventh consecutive contest, to improve to 8-4 overall and 4-0 in the NEAC. The Express fell to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Berks took two of the three matches in doubles play. Crystal Hitz and Aimee Hoffman earned an 8-4 victory over Caitlyn Copfer and Sarah Hansen in the No. 1 spot. Amanda Fuller and Liz Martinez picked up an 8-3 win in second doubles. Arion Harris and Samantha Warga dropped a hard fought battle in the third pairing, falling 8-6 to Kelly Pietruch and Brittany Vanno.
Each of the singles matches were played as eight game pro sets. Hitz was an 8-4 winner in the No. 1 slot and Hoffman won by a score of 8-5 to finish off their perfect play for the day. Harris picked up the other Nittany Lion victory with an 8-3 win. She remained a perfect 4-0 in singles matches this season.
The Nittany Lions will continue their road trip to New York with a NEAC match against Keuka College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
