Women's volleyball remains perfect in NEAC

READING, PA (October 1, 2011) – The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team got back on its winning ways with a sweep of Penn State Harrisburg and the College of St. Elizabeth in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contests at Beaver Community Center.

The Nittany Lions (12-2, 6-0 NEAC) took the opener over Harrisburg by scores of 25-9, 25-10 and 25-12. In the nightcap, Berks defeated the Screaming Eagles (4-11, 2-6 NEAC) by scores of 25-14 in all three games.

Courtney Lucarelli and Amy Shelton each had seven kills to lead Berks over Harrisburg. Lucarelli notched a team-high 11 digs, followed by Victoria Young with seven. Shelton and Kaitlyn Schmeck combined for six of the Nittany Lions 12 service aces.

Berks finished with 30 kills, while committing just five errors in the match. They had a .338 hitting percentage.

In the second match, Maria Pavone had a season-best 10 kills on 18 attempts. Shelton led the squad with 12 kills and five solo blocks. Lucarelli had 11 digs, followed by Young with 10. Schmeck handed out 29 assists and recorded two aces.

The Nittany Lions will finish off the NEAC South Division weekend tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. against Gallaudet and then Penn State Abington at 2 p.m.
