Women's soccer cruises to fourth straight win

READING, PA (September 25, 2010) -TAYLOR KREIDER scored three goals and four others added a score in a 7-0 shutout over SUNY Cobleskill in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) contest.

The win is the fourth consecutive for the Nittany Lions, improving their record to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the NEAC. During the winning streak, Berks has outscored its opponents 25-5.

Kaiti Sassano got the scoring started as just one minute, 48 seconds ticked off the clock with a chip shot from about 25 yards out. Sassano, who was just trying to keep the ball in the offensive zone, managed to loft it over the keepers head for her first goal of the season.

Just over two minutes later, BRI ARNOLD took a pass from ARI FUENTES and with the help of a deflection off the crossbar put the Lions up 2-0.

Kreider then went on a scoring binge, tallying three out of the next four Berks goals. KALEE STINE assisted on one goal with a nice pass through traffic, while Kreider took care of business on her own for the other two.

Alyssa Scheidt sacrificed herself 34 seconds after Kreider's second score, to get her team-leading 10th goal of the season. As the keeper was attempting to clear downfield, Scheidt rushed in and wore the ball right in the face. As luck would have it, the deflection went into the back right corner of the net.

MacKenzy Dawson finished off the scoring with a goal in the 42nd minute with MARY SOFISH supplying the assist.

Cassidy Dawson picked up her first shutout of the season in net, making five saves. She has lowered her goals against average to 1.94.

Berks will face SUNY Institute of Technology tomorrow at 1 p.m. in a NEAC battle of the unbeatens. SUNY IT improved to 4-0 in the conference with a 3-1 win over Penn State Abington.
