Women's tennis edges Albright for first win

Reading, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team claimed a 5-4 win at Albright on Monday afternoon to earn its first win of the season.

Melissa Boyer and Meghan Hartley each won in singles and teamed up for a doubles victory. Boyer, playing out of the fifth singles spot, downed Elissa Cubbler 6-1 and 6-2. Hartley needed a 7-3 tiebreaker to win the first set 7-6 and while leading 4-0 in the second set Nazim Ali conceded the match. Boyer and Hartley were winners in the third doubles flight with an 8-1 score.

Samantha Warga and Rebecca Loewenstein-Harting took the second doubles by a score of 8-4 to give the Lions a 2-1 advantage heading into the singles matches.

Playing at the second singles spot, Aimee Hoffman defeated Kaitlin Kimmel 6-3, 6-1.

The women's tennis team will host their home opener against Baptist Bible on Thursday, September 23 at 4 p.m.
