Berks volleyball keeps rolling with sweep of Bryn Mawr

BRYN MAWR, PA (September 14, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team maintained its torrid pace with a fifth straight win to start the season on Tuesday evening. The Nittany Lions swept their nonconference contest at Bryn Mawr by set scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 26-24.

JERICA DETSCH and SUZI SHELTON tied with a team-best nine kills. Detsch also recorded 11 digs and and an ace, while Shelton had five digs. GLENDA NGO doled out 18 assists and served two of the Lions five aces.

Freshman middle hitter AMY SHELTON provided plenty of pressure at the net. In addition to her seven kills, Shelton had two solo blocks and assisted with Detsch and CHRISTINE KANTONIDES on another two. Libero KATIE SOSTAK led Berks with 16 digs.

Berks collected 31 kills in the three sets, which is low compared to their previous output. The Lions did, however, take advantage of 11 service errors by the Owls (1-5) to help claim the victory.

After suffering a loss through each of the first seven contests a year ago, the Nittany Lions have been unstoppable out of the gate in 2010. Through the first five matches, Berks has swept the opposition four times.

The women will look to continue their success when they host a quad match with Arcadia, Washington and Delaware Valley on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.
