Women's tennis cruises to win over Lancaster Bible

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis squad picked up its second win of the fall season with a 7-2 victory over Lancaster Bible at Gring's Mill Courts on Wednesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions took two of the three doubles matches and were winners in five out of six in singles.

Rebecca Loewenstein-Harting and Liz Martinez made quick work in the No. 3 doubles spot, with an 8-0 win. Aimee Hoffman and Samantha Warga also had a convincing 8-1 victory in the second doubles.

Loewenstein-Harting picked up 6-1, 6-2 at the fourth singles flight to finish the day 2-0. Hoffman picked up her second win of the contest with an 8-6 pro set win over Bri Funk in a battle at second singles.

Freshman Melissa Boyer won in the No. 6 singles slot by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Boyer improved her overall season record to 5-1, including 3-0 in singles matches.

In the closest contest of the match, Warga emerged as the winner in a seesaw battle at fifth singles. Warga took the first set 7-5, then it was Kayla Scott who took the second set 7-5. In the decisive third set, Warga kept the match consistent with a 7-5 win.

The women will conclude the fall portion of their schedule with an away match at Immaculata University on Tuesday, October 12.
