Volleyball finishes 1-3 at Messiah Tournament

GRANTHAM, PA (October 30, 2010) - The Penn State Berks women's volleyball team finished with a 1-3 record at the Messiah Tournament over the weekend.

After losses to Scranton (3-1), Misericordia (3-0) and Catholic (3-1), Berks saved a winless weekend with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Messiah in the tournament finale. The win also snapped a season-worst five match losing streak. The Nittany Lions close out the regular season with a 23-8 record, the most wins since Berks became a member of the NCAA.

Against Messiah, Berks took the opening games 25-23, 25-18 before dropping both the next to by scores of 20-25. In the decisive fifth game, Berks won 15-10.

Amy Shelton collected a team-high 13 kills, two aces and notched two solo blocks. Suzi Shelton chipped in with 11 kills, while Jerica Detsch recorded nine. Glenda Ngo handed out 32 assists and Katie Sostak had a team-best 16 digs.

The Lions combined for seven aces and four blocks.

The women will travel to Keuka on Saturday, November 6 to take on Cazenovia in the quarterfinal round of the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
