READING, PA (October 16, 2010) – Taylor Kreider scored two goals and added an assist in a 4-1 home victory over Penn State Abington in Saturday afternoon's North Eastern Athletic Conference contest.
The win snaps a two-match losing streak and improves Berks to 6-2 in the conference and .500 overall.
Kreider opened the scoring in the first half by working a breakaway past the Abington defense. She then somehow snuck a shot from the ride side base line, past the keeper and deflected off of the left post into the goal.
Alex Volovar notched her first goal of the season in acrobatic fashion. Volovar corralled a loose ball and sent it toward the keeper while falling over. As luck would have it, the ball soared over the keepers outstretched arms to build a two goal lead.
Abington received a goal from Brittany Middleton at the 39:50 mark to slice the lead in half at intermission.
Berks put a stop on the comeback bid right out of the gate. Just over three minutes into the half, Kreider sent a pass to Alyssa Scheidt in front of the keeper. Scheidt shook the keeper with a fake to the right then sent a shot into the left corner for her 12th goal of the season.
Kreider capped off the scoring in the 51st minute to notch her team-best 16th goal. Lyndsay Naughton added the assist on the score.
Cassidy Dawson made five stops in net for Berks and lowered her goal against average to 1.71.
The Lions will travel to Lancaster Bible on Monday, October 18 for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference contest.
