LANCASTER, Pa. - Penn State Berks faced a tough doubleheader against Lancaster Bible, suffering two losses, falling 4-1 in game one and 7-5 in game two.
In game 1, despite the loss, the Nittany Lions secured four hits, including a double, but were held scoreless until the seventh inning. Lancaster Bible took control in the second inning, scoring three runs. Maddison Atkins doubled to left field, and Keira Price hit a two-run homer to center field, bringing in Atkins. Grace Goodman doubled, allowing Ila Rowatti to score, and the inning ended with the Chargers leading 3-0. In the fourth inning, Carleigh Cleland doubled and later scored on an error by the shortstop, extending LBC's lead to 4-0.
Berks made a push in the seventh inning when
Samantha Harple singled and later scored an unearned run when
Alexa Burkey reached on an error. Despite the effort, the game concluded with Lancaster Bible securing a 4-1 victory.
Ashlynn McCardle contributed a hit and a double, drawing a walk in her appearance. Harple scored once and added a hit to her record.
Mallory Johnson pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and three earned runs over 6 innings.
Mia Kennedy managed a hit and was hit by a pitch, while also striking out once. Johnson showcased control over LBC's lineup, not issuing any walks during her outing.
In game 2, the Nittany Lions managed eight hits, including a triple. Lancaster Bible took an early lead in the first inning with three runs. Kendall Jackman scored on an error, and Amanda Hoover drove in two more with a single, making it 3-0. Berks responded in the second inning when
Samantha Harple tripled and scored on a groundout by
Mallory Johnson, reducing the deficit to 3-1.
The fourth inning saw both teams scoring. The Blue & White scored twice when
Natasha Hornung and Harple crossed the plate, aided by an error. However, the Chargers countered with four runs, highlighted by a two-run homer from Maddison Atkins, extending their lead to 7-3 after four innings. Berks narrowed the gap in the sixth inning with Harple and Johnson scoring, along with an RBI single from
Maura Gorman, setting the score at 7-5 going into the final inning.

Natasha Hornung contributed a run and a hit while stopping a steal attempt as catcher.
Maura Gorman pitched a complete game, allowing nine hits and recording two strikeouts over 6 innings.
Mallory Johnson added to the scoring with an RBI and scored a run herself. Gorman threw 105 pitches, with 64 strikes, allowing 9 hits and issuing 3 walks while striking out 2 batters, bringing her record to 3-3 for the season.
