Reading, PA- The Penn St. Berks Softball Team had its run in the 2025 United East Championship Tournament come to an end, as fell twice on Saturday, May 10. The Lions dropped the opening game of the tournament to Penn College 6-3. After a long layoff, Berks fell to Penn State Harrisburg 9-2 in game four of the tournament.

Berks (25-9 Overall, 16-0 UE) look to answer an early run scored by Penn College, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs in the inning,
Anna Laughlin singled to the shortstop.
Jaredis Flores hammered a triple into deep right field, allowing Laughlin to score, tying the game at one.

The Lions took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Naomi Fay got the inning rolling, reaching on a bunt single and steal second base to put herself in scoring position. Later in the inning,
Peyton Vivian lifted a single into right field, allowing Fay to score. Penn College answered back, scoring in the top of the fourth inning to level the score at two.

Berks struck again in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Ashlyn Sherwood reached on an error and then Fay laid down another great bunt, putting runners on first and second. Vivian came through again, knocking a single into right field that allowed Fay to score, giving Berks a 3-2 advantage.

Penn College scored one run in the fifth inning and then used a three-run home run by Mackenzie Weaver to grab a 6-3 lead. Berks could not rally back, falling in game one of the tournament.

The Lions would have to wait till the last game of the day to return to the diamond, taking on Penn State Harrisburg in an elimination game. Berks struck first scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Vivian drew a walk and Laughlin reached via an error, putting runners on first and second. Flores then lined a single into right field, loading the bases.
Kylie Krauss reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Vivian to score.

Penn State Harrisburg scored four runs in the top of the second inning, retaking the lead. Berks looked to answer back in the bottom of the inning.
Haylie Mauger drove a single into center field and stole second to put herself into scoring position. Vivian capitalized on a throwing error, and the ensuing chaos allowed Mauger to score and cut the deficit down to two.

Harrisburg scored three runs in the top of third inning, taking firm control of the game. Berks struggled to find baserunners and could not get the offense going. Harrisburg added two more runs, eventually earning a 9-2 victory.
