READING, PA - The Penn State Berks Softball team dropped a pair of games to Penn St. Harrisburg on Wednesday, Apr. 24. The Lions fell 10-2 in game one and dropped game two 6-3.
GAME 1
The Lions fell behind early as Harrisburg scored in the third inning. Berks answered back, scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning. Paige Brightwell started the rally drawing a walk. Peyton Vivian singled to right field and Lauren Ziegler was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Emily Smith drew a walk, bringing in a run to level the score at one.
Harrisburg scored one run in the fifth inning and eight runs in the sixth inning to take a nine-run lead. Berks tried to battle back and stay alive in the bottom of the sixth inning. Maura Gorman led off the inning by reaching on a fielding error. Vivian doubled to center to put a pair of runners in scoring position. After Rylee Tineri was hit by a pitch, Mallory Duff drew a walk to bring in a run. Berks could not score another run, falling 10-2.
GAME 2
Berks got off to a better start, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Namoi Fay reached on a fielding error, advancing to second base. Vivian then singled to right field, driving in Fay to make the score 1-0. Harrisburg slowly chipped away scoring in the last four innings to rally back and take a 6-1 lead.
Berks tried to rally back in the bottom of the seventh inning. Gorman and Savannah Wilson drew walks to put a pair of runners on base. Brightwell then drove a single into left field allowing a run to score. Fay kept the rally going, singling through the left side to score a third run. Berks could not continue the rally, falling by a score of 6-3.
WHO'S NEXT
The Lions will close out the regular season by hosting Gallaudet University in United East doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 27. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
