Women's tennis falls to Alvernia in season opener

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team dropped its season opener, 9-0, to Alvernia University in non-conference action on Thursday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.

The Nittany Lions open the year at 0-1, while the Golden Wolves move to 1-2 this fall.

The No. 3 duo of Sam Hagenbush and Makenzie Shoop fell by a score of 8-1 to Alvernia's Sarah Mies and Megan Wells. The No. 1 pair of Bel Clayton and Naomi Fay were topped 8-0, while the second tandem of Alyssa Love and Jules Lesher fell by a similar score.

In singles play, Hagenbush battled hard before falling 6-2, 6-2 in the fourth flight, Shoop (No. 6) was edged by scores of 6-1, 6-2. Love (No. 3) was topped 6-2, 6-0, while Clayton (No. 1) and Lesher (No. 5) both suffered 6-1, 6-0 setbacks.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Albright College for a non-conference match on Wednesday, September 27 at 3:30 p.m.
