Softball swept by Penn College on the road

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The Penn State Berks softball team dropped a pair of games to Penn College in an United East doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The Wildcats won 9-2 in the opener and took the second game by a 3-1 margin.

The Nittany Lions drop to 23-7 overall and 18-4 in the conference, while Penn College improves 26-8 on the season and 18-4 in the United East.

In the opener, the Wildcats scored once in the bottom of the first and added four in the third and three in the fourth to build an 8-0 lead. Berks scored twice in the fifth, but the Wildcats added on in the sixth and put Berks away in the seventh.

Emily Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, Arizona Shreck went 1-for-2 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored. Savannah Wilson had a hit and scored a run.

Briana Smith struck out three batters in 6.0 innings of work.

In game two, Penn College scored twice in the fourth and once more in the fourth. The Nittany Lions tallied a run in the fifth, but were unable to get any closer than that the rest of the way.

Shreck was 1-for-3 with a solo homer. Veronica Maryanski, Naomi Fay, and Emily Smith all recorded a hit.

Shreck struck out one batter in 6.0 innings in the circle.

With rain in the forecast all weekend, the final doubleheader against Penn State Harrisburg is postponed. At this time, no make-up date has been set.
