Women's tennis wins thriller over Clarks Summit

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team closed out its season with a thrilling 5-4 victory over Clarks Summit University in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts.

The Nittany Lions won 2-of-3 doubles bouts to jump out to an early lead. The No. 1 duo of Bel Clayton and Sallay Thollie were 8-5 winners, while Sam Hagenbush and Katie Davis won by a score of 8-4 at the third spot. 

In singles action, Hagenbush (No. 5) was a 6-0, 6-1 winner and Davis (No. 6) won 6-1, 6-0. Clayton, playing at top singles, dropped her first set by a 6-4 margin. But the freshman responded with a 6-3 win in the second set and won the tiebreaker, 10-7, to clinch the match for Berks. Bailey Rocker, the lone senior on the team, dropped a hard fought battled at No. 4 singles, falling by set scores of 6-4, 7-5.

The Nittany Lions conclude the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 2-10 and 1-4 in the United East.
