LATHAM, N.Y. - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team had its eight match win streak snapped and its season draw to an end with a 9-0 setback to Colby-Sawyer College in the NEAC/NAC Crossover Championship on Sunday afternoon at the Tri-City Tennis Club.

The Nittany Lions finish the year with an overall record of 10-7, while the Chargers improve to 9-10 on the season. This was the sixth straight season that Colby-Sawyer has won the crossover contest and second consecutive year over the Nittany Lions.

Diego Olazagasti and Mostafa Rahmy were topped 8-3 in No. 1 doubles by Gustav Jigrup and Nick Mathieu. Curtis Uhle and Federico Ochoa (No. 2 doubles) and Will Byler and Grant Batzer (No. 3) were bested by the opposition by an 8-2 margin.

In singles action, Byler hung tight in the early going with Jigrup in the No. 1 bout. The senior was edged 6-4 in the first set and then topped 6-0 in the clinching second set. Byler finishes off his storied career with the second most doubles victories in program history (35), while ranking third all-time in singles wins (34) and combined wins (69).

Olazagasti suffered a 6-3, 6-2 setback at No. 2 singles, while Rahmy (No. 3)fell by a 6-0, 6-1 score. Uhle battled in the four spot, but he was edged by a score of 6-2, 6-4. Ochoa dropped his No. 5 match 6-1, 6-3 and Batzer's match was 6-3, 6-1 at six.

Batzer is the other senior on the Nittany Lions roster this season. He saw his role on the team grow more significant this year as he finished the season 7-9 in doubles play and 7-7 in singles.

The Nittany Lions have reached double digits in wins for the second straight year and just fifth time in program history. The 2017-18 squad was the NEAC Regular Season Champions and won the NEAC Tournament for the second straight season. Head coach Scott Yarnell was selected as the NEAC Co-Coach of the Year after guiding his squad to a phenomenal season.
