Softball season ends at NCAA Regional

GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Penn State Berks softball team saw its 2018 season come to a close after falling to No. 5 ranked Randolph-Macon College, 3-0, and then 8-0 to No. 23 ranked Rowan University at the NCAA Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions finish the year with an overall record of 25-10-1. For the second straight season, Berks picked up a win at the NCAA Tournament with its 3-2 thriller over host Rowan on Friday afternoon. The team will bid farewell to seniors Ashley Malek and Morgan Omlor, who saw the team go 105-38-1 and make three trips to the national tournament during their time with the program.

In the opener against the Yellow Jackets (40-5), Jess Rozick turned in another fine performance in the pitcher's circle. The junior right-hander allowed just four hits and three runs (one earned), while striking out two batters. Rozick finishes the season with a 15-7 record to go along with a 1.42 ERA and a single-season school record 162 strikeouts in 133.0 innings of work.

Val Miller and Cori Dickinson had the lone hits for Berks against Randolph-Macon.

In the second game, Rowan recorded three in the top of the first inning and did not look back the rest of the way. They tacked on two runs in both the fourth and sixth and one final run in the seventh.

Dickinson had the only hit of the game with a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth. Miller struck out two batters and went the distance in the pitcher's circle.

Malek ends her four-year career ranking among the top-10 all-time in batting average, hits, RBI, runs scored, doubles, triples, slugging percentage, and at-bats. She is the program record holder for home runs with 14.

With the bulk of the lineup set to return, the Nittany Lions will look duplicate its success and then some in 2019.
