Women's tennis falls to SUNY Geneseo in NCAA Tournament

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team had its 2017-18 season come to an end with a 5-0 setback to SUNY Geneseo in the NCAA Tournament First Round at the Proctor Tennis Courts on the campus of Middlebury College.

The Nittany Lions fell in a 3-0 hole after the doubles matches. The No. 2 duo of Alyssa Miller and Violet Tran mounted a late rally, but ultimately dropped their bout by an 8-4 margin. Caroline Bashore and Laura Youwakim were topped 8-3 by Rachel Ollis and Vanessa Lam-Tran in the No. 1 flight. Tessa Caltagirone and Deismy Jimenez fell by a score of 8-1 at third doubles.

In singles action, Tran was leading 5-4 in her No. 4 singles match when the Knights had clinched the victory. Bashore dropped her first set 6-0, but was leading 201 at No. 2 singles, while Youwakim (No. 3) was down 6-0, 4-2 in her match.

The Nittany Lions conclude the season with a 9-6 and had a perfect 5-0 mark in NEAC action. They won the NEAC Championship title for the ninth time 14 years and made the first appearance in the national tournament in program history.
