Softball swept on third day of Florida trip

KISSIMMEE, FL - The Penn State Berks softball team suffered a 3-2 setback to Rhodes College followed by a 10-2 defeat to Aurora University at the D9 Sunkissed Game on Wednesday afternoon.

Against Rhodes, the Nittany Lions (2-4) got on the board with two runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lynx evened things up with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. The score remained that way until the fifth inning when Rhodes was able to push the game winning run across the plate.

Sophia Cinti finished the game 1-for-3 with one double, one stolen base, and one run scored, Carley Smith was 1-for-2.

Jess Rozick allowed four hits and surrendered three runs (one earned), while striking out five and walking two.

In the second game, Aurora broke open a 1-1 contest by tallying four runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth.

Cori Dickinson went 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the offense, followed by Heather Rissell going 2-for-3. Smith and Becca Faust both finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Rozick went 1-for-2 with a triple, while Ashley Malek went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

The Nittany Lions will conclude their spring trip with a pair of games on Thursday, March 8. They open the day against Defiance College at 11:15 a.m., followed by Misericordia University at 1:30 p.m.
