Women's tennis drops fall finale to Alvernia

READING, PA - The Penn State Berks women's tennis team dropped its non-conference contest to Alvernia University, 9-0, in the fall season finale on Monday afternoon at Angelica Park.

The Nittany Lions wrap up the first half of the season with a 2-1 record, while the Crusaders improve to 2-0 on the year.

Erin Ginther and Laura Youwakim battled hard in the No. 2 doubles match, but Alyssa Boyd and Emily Thek came out on top with an 8-6 win. Tessa Caltagirone and Lu Pulcini fell at third doubles by a score of 8-4, while Caroline Bashore and Kianna Anderson were topped 8-2 in the No. 1 bout.

In singles action, Youwakim (No. 4) picked up a 6-1 win in the first set before falling 6-4 and 10-8 in the tiebreaker. Anderson was edged 7-6 and 6-3 in the No. 2 flight, while Pulcini suffered an 8-6 setback at fifth singles.

The Nittany Lions will return at action with their annual trip to Orlando, Florida during spring break in March.
