Men's tennis tops Alvernia, 5-4

READING, PA (October 10, 2015) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team picked up a 5-4 victory over Alvernia University in its fall season finale in a non-conference contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions (2-0) snapped a five-match losing streak against their nearby rival. The match didn't look good for Berks in the early going, as they fell behind 2-1 in the doubles round. The No. 3 duo of Jerrad Seifrit and Owen Jones stopped the Crusaders (0-3) from the doubles sweep by earning an 8-6 victory. All of the doubles matches went to the brink, as the No. 1 match was an 9-7 setback for Ryan Fritz and Angel Negron. At the second flight, Alvernia grabbed an 8-6 win over Will Byler and Grant Batzer.

In singles action, the Nittany Lions picked up wins in each of the first three flights. Byler won at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-4 and Fritz won 6-1, 6-2 at the second slot. Negron won his third singles match by scores of 6-4, 7-6 with a 7-5 triumph in the tiebreaker. The decisive victory came at No. 6 singles with Jones winning 6-3, 6-4.

The Nittany Lions will return to action in March with their Spring Break Trip to Orlando, Florida.
