Men's tennis edged by Albright in season opener

READING, PA (September 16, 2013) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team suffered a 5-4 setback to Albright College in the season opener on Monday afternoon at Gring's Mill Tennis Courts. (Boxscore)

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play, but Albright picked up four singles victories to clinch the match. The No. 1 doubles team of Drew Weinhold and Ryan Fritz came back from a 3-1 deficit to earn a thrilling 8-6 win. The tandem of Jeremy Emami and Shesh Patel were 8-5 winners in the third doubles flight.

Fritz continued his impressive collegiate debut with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Sean Purcell at the No. 3 singles spot. Volan Nnanpalle also made a strong start to the season with a win at second singles. The freshman dropped the first set 4-6, but bounced back with a 6-4 win and took the match after winning the tiebreaker by a score of 10-7.

The Nittany Lions will travel to Alvernia University for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, September 25.
