READING, PA (February 19, 2011) - The Penn State Berks men's tennis team dropped its 2011 season opener, 9-0, against Muhlenberg College at Hillcrest Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon.
The Nittany Lions (0-1) tried to shake the rust from the offseason. Despite what the score shows, Berks battled throughout and had a number of impressive volleys.
The No. 1 doubles of senior Andrew Miller and freshman Steven Roughton played in the closest match of the afternoon. The duo fell 8-5 to the Mules top players of Robbie Goldwein and Jordan Rutt.
Sophomore Tim Ko played strong in the second singles flight, but fell to Goldwein. Javier Quinones-Melendez lost 10-3 to Ari Nutovits in the No. 5 singles spot.
The Nittany Lions will return to action on March 17 with an away match at Marywood University.
